Creative Mind Trance Work is a collaborative and body-based approach inspired by the work of psychologist and psychotherapist Dr Stephen Gilligan. Unlike conventional ideas of hypnosis, you remain present, aware and actively involved throughout the process. This is something we do together, not something that is done to you.
The work creates a quieter, more spacious state in which the busy thinking mind can soften and the wisdom of the body, imagination, emotion and deeper awareness can be included.

Trance does not necessarily mean being unconscious or losing control. We naturally experience light forms of trance during meditation, daydreaming, creative absorption, prayer or moments of deep connection with music and nature.
In a session, you remain able to speak, move, reflect, ask questions, pause or stop at any time.
Rather than trying harder to think your way through a difficulty, we slow down, become more centred and listen to what is happening within the body and mind.
The purpose is not to escape reality. It is to meet your experience differently so that new responses and possibilities can emerge.
An important part of the approach is learning to return to a more centred, open, aware and connected state.
From this steadier place, difficult experiences can often be met with greater curiosity, compassion and choice.Instead of demanding that a frightened, protective or overworking part disappear, we may become curious:
What is this part trying to communicate?
What is it attempting to protect?
What does it need?
What resources are available now?
What new role might it be able to develop?

The aim is not to reject or eliminate parts of ourselves. It is to create enough inner space for the whole system to move forward.
Generative Trance is not only concerned with understanding the past. It also asks:
Your intention might relate to health, relationships, confidence, purpose, creativity, personal direction or the way you want to experience your life. We explore both the direction you want to move towards and the patterns that may be making that movement difficult. An intention becomes a compass—not a demand for perfection.
Some patterns continue even when we understand them intellectually. For this reason, the body is actively included in the work.
Depending on the session, you may be invited to notice your breathing, posture, sensations or spontaneous movements. We may work seated, standing or through gentle movement and imagery.
You might explore:
- Where tension or contraction is being held
- Where you feel more open, supported or grounded
- What changes when you alter your posture or movement
- How a boundary, resource or desired future feels in your body
Movement is never forced. Stillness can be equally meaningful.
The purpose is to help change become something you can experience and embody—not merely something you understand intellectually.
Creative Mind Trance Work may provide a supportive space when you:
- Feel stuck despite understanding the problem
- Keep returning to a pattern you would like to change
- Feel disconnected from yourself or uncomfortable in your body
- Become overwhelmed, reactive or internally conflicted
- Are navigating a transition or important decision
- Want to explore emotional blocks around health, relationships or personal goals
- Notice that one part of you wants change while another part does not feel ready
- Want to feel more centred, resourced and connected with what matters to you
- Are seeking greater creativity, purpose or future direction
You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what the problem is. Sometimes the work begins simply with:
“Something doesn’t feel right, and I would like to understand what is happening.”
Creative Mind Trance Work can be experienced independently or incorporated into the broader PEACE Method.
It can complement psychotherapy, IFS-informed work, somatic practice, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, clinical nutrition and health coaching when appropriate.
This can be particularly valuable when you know what you “should” be doing but find yourself unable to do it consistently. Rather than assuming that this is a failure of discipline, we become curious about what else may be happening.
Sometimes there is stress. Sometimes there is protection. Sometimes an old pattern is still trying to provide safety.
This work gives us another way to listen.
A session generally follows a gentle, collaborative pathway:
You may book one session to experience the approach or explore a particular intention.
For deeper or recurring patterns, a short series of three or four sessions provides greater continuity and time to integrate what emerges.

No. You remain aware, able to communicate and actively involved throughout the process. You do not need to enter a deep trance for the work to be useful.
Creative Mind and Generative Trance are collaborative and responsive. The conscious mind is included rather than bypassed, and the process may involve conversation, body awareness, imagery and movement. Suggestions are not imposed upon you.
The body can communicate information that is not always easily reached through conversation alone. Gentle attention to movement, breathing and physical sensation can help you recognise tension, emotion, protection and emerging resources.
Yes. You may book an individual session or begin with a complimentary conversation. If the work feels suitable, we can also discuss a short series or its integration into broader support.
You do not need to know in advance whether Creative Mind Trance Work is exactly what you need.We can begin with a conversation about what is happening, where you feel stuck and what you would like to create. Together, we can consider whether this approach—on its own or as part of broader integrative support—may be right for you.
